  •  Isn't this interesting, how varied our trees are (6+ / 0-)

    within even a fairly small geographic area. I wonder if it has to do with the varieties we have chosen (or found). I do know that of my 3 kinds of pears, only one is blooming right now.

    I'm not as serious about fruit tree gardening as I could be, pruning and all. And much more of the fruit goes into bird and raccoon tummies than ours. Fruit trees do grow really well in this county, in the rainshadow here. Until irrigation started east of the Cascades when the dams went in, San Juan County supplied the seattle area with a lot of its tree fruit. A lot of derelict remnant orchards remain around the islands. There are some folk working on recovering them, especially the "heirloom" type fruits.
