  •  Really? (0+ / 0-)

I'm overstating the power of someone like Dick Cheney and his acolytes?

I made the mistake of dismissing Fox News when it first came on the scene believing that no one in their right mind would believe their obviously wrong reporting.  Thought people would see through them and moved along, but that isn't what happened.  Have resolved not to repeat that mistake again.  It is probably the primary reason that I spend any time at all on political blogs.

as long as what they're being told fits their prejudices, it's the Truth. Confirmation of their personal fears and hatred is as simple as aiming your communication right at them, feeding their fear and bigotry. The slicker you make it look, the better.
We leftists are considered cynical by the Right when we question religion, but there is an awful cynicism that abandons hope, does not recognize hope in one's fellow man and embraces the worst of all possibilities as not only probable, but certain.

I would not want to live like that. I would not want to live a life intentionally confining my own mind and not only believing, but seeking to be believe, the worst about all others who don't look, sound or act like me.

A small life is a sad life, indeed. Sadder still is the fervent passion for keeping it small and sad.

Peace is not merely a distant goal that we seek, but a means by which we arrive at that goal. - Martin Luther King, Jr.
