    and antediluvian political cultures go?

All that's missing in the GOP's case is a couple more elections (maybe three) and a headstone.

foreseeable future through their control of state legislatures and the consequent control of redistricting. The Rethug triumphs of 2010 were no accident. They have deliberately been building a deep bench (local and county level elected officials) of crazys for decades, aided in the past decade or so by big-money crazys like the Kochs.

If (a big IF, I fear) we can wrest back control of some state governments in the purple states we can maybe roll back some of the more abhorrent legislation being enacted at the state level. But there is no hope for getting a Dem majority in Congress until after the 2020 redistricting.

The Catch-22 is that the state legislatures control how the state legislatures are elected and GOP shenanigans have made it harder to elect Dems at the state level.

Forget about worrying about 2016, the goal this cycle and going forward is electing more Dems to state legislatures in states like Ohio, Michigan, and Virginia.

You fell victim to one of the classic blunders, the most famous of which is "Never get involved in a land war in Asia".

positive than you are, but I agree, it's tough. I'm focussing short term on salvaging individual local House seats, and trying to clean up the bipartisan mess in our state capital (NY, one place where both sides really do do it). I'll consider it a successful cycle if we hold onto the Senate, pick up any seats at all in the House, and achieve unambiguous, non corrupt Democratic control of our state senate.
