  •  I dunno. The East Texas Strategy (0+ / 0-)

Was not, as far as I know an Atwater idea.  The Houston Ship Channel interests, big oil, and the petrochemical industries that derive from it, were wishing they could do something about environmentalists because regulations were making them sweat a little.

Rove was not the only one to think of this, but on Bush's behalf, and on behalf of candidates before him, he worked out a marriage of convenience between the fundamental evangelical sects and Big Oil.

The Believers could be wound up and set loose just by putting little flyers on the windshields of cars outside church services on Sunday morning.  All they had to say was "Our candidate...........born again Christian, The Democrat.....tool of the devil." and a whole bloc of voters would turn out for the GOP.

This corrupted Christianity has gone national through church based workshops on political organizing sponsored by the large special interest donors.

The biggest threat from this that I see is that local Democratic groups don't see this coming.  So you could see more Tea Party Republicans getting elected in the small towns and rural areas.

hope that the idiots who have no constructive and creative solutions but only look to tear down will not win the day.
