is just a part of the big American lie. People who use roads and libraries and post offices are co-housing, so to speak.

This is so beautiful, and so much a part of the American way. It is people selling single family housing, or four passenger cars, or suburban inventors of high pressure washers for your deck want us to think that co-living is perverse.

I love that these co-living communities are doing it so well.

Breathe in. Breathe out. Forget this, and attaining enlightenment will be the least of your problems.

It goes to the larger issue of the whole "you didn't build that" discussion we had during the last election. I think it's just part of the great American myth that you can do it all by yourself and that in fact everyone else is just meddling in your private affairs. I can definitely understand that yearning, because sometimes it really is hard to deal with other people and their desires and egos. There's certainly something nice about the idea that no one will ever look over your shoulder. But I think we've taken the whole individualism thing just too far. It's not one or the other, but we have to find a balance where we can each be ourselves and have the freedom to just get away sometimes, but at the same also build the kind of trust among each other where our shared existence isn't some sort of a chore or taking away from our individuality, but where the mutual love and support actually enhances each of our personal lives.
