  •  I know Sherrod Brown said that he's against cuts (1+ / 0-)

to Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid and co-sponsored and voted for amendments blocking cuts to these programs.  Durbin has voted for the amendment as well but could still be persuaded to vote for the cuts.  He's the one who needs to be pressure.  Brown, be sure to thank him for rejecting these cuts but also to stay strong on his word.

I hope that you are right that he won't 'fold.'

His message on his official Senate website is not particularly encouraging, IMHO.

On Senator Brown's website, under the topic of 'seniors,' it reads:

Our seniors are part of the greatest generation – having served our nation in war and provided security at home as leaders in classrooms and factories and in boardrooms and veterans service organizations. They depend on Social Security and Medicare, which they paid into and earned.

The deserve policies that protect these earned benefits, not undermine them. That’s why I’ve fought against efforts to raise the retirement age for Social Security or end Medicare as we know it. I will continue fighting on behalf of Ohio’s seniors.

Here's the link.  Under this 'genera'l paragraph are PR Releases unrelated to the Chained CPI, the various proposed cuts to Medicare in the 2013 Budget, etc.

Some folks may find that very comforting, but frankly, I took away no assurances from his words that he will not cast a vote to cut the social insurance programs.

OTOH, I will most definitely 'thank him,' after the final vote is cast, IF he votes 'the right way,' LOL!

Joanne Leon has published extensively about Durbin's interest and support for cuts to Social Security and Medicare (not to mentioned the truckload of evidence in general 'out there' regarding Durbin's intentions).

I don't even waste time thinking that Durbin will 'vote the right way.'  Which is not to say that I hope he won't.  And if he does, I'll be sure and 'thank him,' too.

But if he does led the charge for a Commission to cut our social insurance programs, hopefully, he'll be primaried.  [Actually, if he does have a major hand in establishing a Social Security Commission, I suspect that he won't run again.]
