    I saw a lot of looks like that this week from my sparrows, as the grackles and black birds are migrating through and eat a lot of the seed the sparrows usually get.

      to STOP feeding the birds last week... and what did I do today?  Bought more seed.

      I think the rushing sound of the pond falls has had a redwing blackbird hanging around.  I used to hear them more when I was a kid, but well... so much development and houses built up all around.  :(

      There's a juvie male (red bar on wings still developing) that is learning the adult male screech.  Funny to hear him practice.

      I also have cowbirds.  I know they are nest parasites, but oh, the male looks gorgeous in the sun!!

      Lots of white throated sparrows at the feeders... along with house and goldfinch, and the usual spate of sparrow varieties, chickadees and cardinals (with the males chasing each other constantly since 'tis the season!)
