    jack up rig in the arctic has as much to do with the line on the map as probably no way to deal with bergs. I saw a jack up rig standing by in Seward Bay thirty years ago. I think they've been drilling in non arctic Alaskan waters for quite a while.

    Arctic drilling is very expensive, it has to compete with fracking, which as of now produces more oil cheaper.

    I think that the first ever reduction in the amount of greenhouse gasses produced is actually something the Obama admin can be proud of. We're on track to maybe meet the goals set in the Kyoto protocols. Not bad for having absolutely no help from congress or enviro groups.

    If Americans would stop being such energy hogs it sure would help. How many backpacks and bikes would John Muir feel it necessary to own? How many flights for vacations would he take?
