Wow--health trumps everything.  I still recommend full retirement, when possible for the both of you.  The younger you start your next chapter, the more capable you'll be to enjoy it.  At 65, it's your time -- travel, read on the beach, picket for worthy causes--maybe dabble in politics--running for office.  As you get older, you become restricted-- you succeeded in teaching--now succeed in relaxing.

Whatever, celebrate your wife's return to health-- go to  a sporting event and shout yourself hoarse.  We used to call that a primal scream--good for releasing tension and for laughing at oneself.

    Apres Bush, le deluge.

I am probably most productive when I am with adolescents

if I am offered a teaching position where I can teach as I believe I should, I will accept it over any other possibility, including possible positions of importance in the government

I keep in mind the aphorism of Henry Adams:  "“A teacher affects eternity; he can never tell where his influence stops."

"We didn't set out to save the world; we set out to wonder how other people are doing and to reflect on how our actions affect other people's hearts." - Pema Chodron
