We don't work for our political officeholders. In fact, they're supposed to work for us.

Government and laws are the agreement we all make to secure everyone's freedom.

    •  If you live here you are guilty. (0+ / 0-)

We cannot separate ourselves from the society in which we chose to live in. You have a choice and the ability to live elsewhere. Yet here you are insisting that only politicians be wedded to policy.

The people of this country are the government. That is now, and has always been, part of the deal. We cannot just read parts of the Constitution that we believe are betrayed by politicians while skipping over the parts that make it clear that those politicians are our responsibility.

We cannot complain that pols are corrupt without recognizing that it is our fellow citizens doing the corrupting. We cannot scream corporatism with one breath while purchasing their goods and services with another.

No, no, we are all guilty. Anyone who doesn't see that will never be part of the solution.

The politicians may be bought, and the system corrupt, but it is our duty to fix these things.

Is Pussy Riot guilty for Russian oppression? Bradley Manning for American destruction and empire abroad?

I'm all for American reparations to Iraqis and Afghanis, if there's a way to do it that distributes the restitution equitably. I should have done and still should do more to stop the wars and bring about justice, so of that I am guilty of some complicity of inaction.

But to say it's all everyone's fault is to say that there's nothing to be done. That if you use a computer, manufactured in China, to battle oppression, you're a hopeless hypocrite whose efforts mean nothing. Retreat from civilization is surrender. Don't berate and condemn those who are doing the best they can to right our country.

Government and laws are the agreement we all make to secure everyone's freedom.
