    if, in the end, he has cut budgets and taxes, he will be satisfied. he would prefer one big deal, but if he gets much of the same result in bits and pieces, he will assume he will eventually get credit, anyway.

      not the particular pieces of the Grand Bargain.

      And no he won't get credit for a piecemeal bargain, especially when all of the pieces are GOP pieces.

      Even he realizes  now he'll just come off as a sap.

      A GRAND BARGAIN is different.

        i don't think he sees himself as being a sap in this. i think he thinks things are moving in the right direction, and i don't think he thinks he's getting gop pieces. again, i don't think he looks at economics the way traditional democrats do.

        i do think he wants a grand bargain, just as he wanted something that could be called health reform, the details of which never really seemed all that important; but if he doesn't get it, but has moved toward smaller budgets and lower taxes, i think he'll still be pretty satisfied. not to the degree he would be with a grand bargain, but still pretty satisfied.
