    Yes he will not appeal to single-issue environmental types, but so what? I doubt seriously that it will hurt in Montana or any other state where fossil fuel is a larger employer.

    He could probably compete very well in Texas and Louisiana as well as a segment of working and middle class voters that would respond to a Democratic candidate with a record like Schweitzer's.

    It may be counter intuitive, but it might just take someone who isn't an obvious activist on the issue to be the one to advance the issue. We should understand that Schweitzer has not shown that he is a Bush or Cheney when it comes to environmental issue.

    In all honesty, I like him for multiple reasons even though I know he isn't perfect on the issue of coal,in particular. He is strong on campaign finance, or has been, so to completely dismiss him as a "centrist" or "conservadem" is false. Reform campaign financing and we stand a better chance on all of our issues.

    The politicians may be bought, and the system corrupt, but it is our duty to fix these things.
