      ... blaming yourself is not helpful.  One of the things that ego does is pat yourself on the back one moment and beat yourself up the next.  Blaming yourself does not really solve anything, but it does make life more miserable.  The practice is that when the pattern of blaming yourself arises, to meet it with compassion, with tenderness, with an open and loving heart, just as you would with anyone else who is suffering.

      When we meet what arises with compassion, with an open heart, this takes away the karmic energy, the charge, the momentum, of egoic conditioning.  Being fully present, opening the heart, returning to the breath; this practice takes the wind out of patterns that can make our life miserable.  And by practicing with these tools daily, over time these patterns will dissipate, losing their energy and momentum.  Over time, life does become much more enjoyable.
