  •  Not To Mention the Pardons (15+ / 0-)

When Bush the Elder pardoned his criminal cronies just before Christmas under the cover of dark after the 1992 election so he could avoid getting indicted because Kap the Knife had threatened to turn state's evidence, he destroyed all respect he might have gotten in my household.  One doesn't give out pardons unless one is trying to hide something.

The press totally glosses over these little slivers of criminality constantly coughed up by the Bush crime family and it needs to stop.  Thirty days later the press was chasing after bogus stories about Clinton and drug planes in Arkansas and his killing a close aide.  The White House press corps certainly knows just who butters their bread and it's certainly not the public.

    •  Thank you. In the midst of the criticisms (5+ / 0-)

of the Liebury and it's subject, I have read nauseating comments here from a few folks who think Poppy wasn't all that bad, did some good stuff.

George HW Bush will be higher than his son on the presidents' rankings. Most likely he will just make 'bad'. HW was notorious for not putting much effort beyond ceremonial into the offices he held. I can only believe the 'good stuff' was 1) cover for the bad,  2) politically necessary.

Inadvertently he did one thing for me. I was so determined to work for Bob Dole in '88, when the Libertarian party in Alaska failed to meet the criteria to be able to register voters, I went to a GOP caucus. I listened to the evangelical crackpots for about 30 minutes. Since our precinct chair, an assistant pastor at the Anchorage Baptist Temple (mega church) across the street had violated rules and refused to let us register GOP, we left.

Went to the Dem caucus the next evening. Met very good people, got Dukakis' position papers which I read several times. Have proudly referred to myself as a Dukakis Dem since.

Ultimately Bob Dole and Michael had more to do with it than George I.

Is it courageous to propose tax cuts but not identify a single tax expenditure to rein in? Is it courageous to target your deepest cuts on the poorest Americans, who vote in lower numbers and provide little in campaign contributions?
