  •  the legislative gerrymander was very weak (7+ / 0-)

and likely to collapse in 2014 with Corbett on top of the ticket. Alot of the Repubs seats in the Philly burbs are vulnarable. Plus there's a pending lawsuit that will undue the lines. If Dems get both chambers, they should be very aggressive and go hard for the jugular in mid decade redist. They shouldn't do some half ass attempt.

Getting a better map in PA is vital if we ever want to come close to getting the House back.

you have lawsuits in Florida and Carolina that could go our way. Im more optimistic with the Florida lawsuit, I don't really know too much with the NC one.

Republicans control the court and while they aren't as partisan as those in places like Wisconsin, Republican interests spent huge to keep the court in 2010 and 2012 to prevent this sort of thing from going our way.

Florida we basically hold a 5-2 majority, but it's possible the maps just get sent back to the legislature in which case that doesn't help us all that much.

if it's redrawn before or after the Gov election. I hope it's after, because I don't think they'll have the stomach to do it during the election, and we can have a Gov. Crist to veto anything that even smell the slightest of a gerrymander to protect certain people like Young and IRL.

tried drawing it. She's popular enough that it really doesn't matter if she gets a Dem leaning seat as it's mainly Young and Webster who would get the shaft. Young especially since there's no legitimate reason to not have Pinellas County, while it remains to be seen what happens to the 5th district. Ideally it becomes Jacksonville-Gainesville and is safe while Webster gets all of Orlando and is toast. Republicans like to think they can draw part of Duval County in with Nassau when you don't need to split Jacksonville that much, so if the 5th explicitly gets struck as it should, expect them to do something like that if they get another swing at bat.

You're right though that we do want either the court to impose a map or for them to strike it down in 2015. Then we get presidential turnout under new maps too and by that time Patrick Murphy might be running against Rubio anyway if he wins reelection. Does anyone know how the cases are proceeding? I haven't heard much about them.
