    It's all part of the story of accelerating support for gay rights in this country, and as you point out, there's the Kennedy angle, which is an unexpected bonus. Plus, the overlap between political junkiedom and sports fandom is well-known and eternal. And besides, I'm sure everyone here is thrilled that Collins had the courage to come out. I certainly am.

      Growing up as a Stanford fan (something I rarely admit here at Berkeley), the Collins twins were a part of my childhood, along with Arthur Lee, Michael McDonald, Kriss Weems, Peter Sauer, Mark Madsen, Tim Young (wonder how those two Mormons feel?), Casey Jacobson, Ryan Mendez, Curtis Borchardt, and the rest of the Stanford players from that time period.

      The first sports event I remember watching (1998 March Madness, where Stanford made the Final Four) had Jason Collins in it.  Good for him for having the courage.
