  •  Good Morning, OS (4+ / 0-)

I thought you'd like to know in advance.  Yesterday at Bagram Air Field in Afghanistan Seven civilians killed in a cargo plane crash at Afghan Air Base.

The New Zealand custom of Haka was completely new to me.  Very impressive video and you are right, those Westboro cowards would not go anywhere near them.

Let us when you post on those N Z soldiers.

    Have a great day.

    •  Thanks, JD (4+ / 0-)

I heard about it and knew it was coming.  This has not been a good week. Because of the story I wrote about Kirby Cowan and the airmen of Buchenwald, things have snowballed. Yesterday, I got a FedEx package of material from the son of an airman whose father was killed when his B-17G was shot down at the same time Kirby's plane was hit. I have not brought myself to open it yet, but it is supposed to contain photos of the crashed planes and other documents.

An aviator I have not heard from in a long time called me yesterday. He was the one who took the photo I use as an avatar. The nostalgia for people and places long gone was thick in the air yesterday.

      •  All these things converging at one time... (3+ / 0-)

        there must be a reason.

It must be incredibly difficult to make yourself open a package like the one you received.  This son must have been thrilled to find someone like you to send the material to.  I don't know if it's the case here or not, but the desire to have his father's information acknowledged and cataloged somewhere for posterity must be strong.

        Memories.
