    and discussed ad nauseum?

Go here if you need to refresh your memory: http://www.dailykos.com/...

Your quibble on comments about it in this thread comes off as, somewhat um, disingenuous.

I was part of that discussion as well, and as I recall, no one there was able to do anything but engage in name calling about the pollsters, either. If there was a substantive criticism of the poll or the methodology in the 400+ comments in that diary, I missed it.

And it is being rehashed in a quieter fashion here. Criticism of the poll on grounds about as solid as "they're poopy-heads and I don't trust them" just don't cut it.

I would have thought people would understand the perils of denying results you don't like from the way Nate Silver trashed the conservative predictions on the 2012 elections. Conservatives did not want to believe Silver's predictions, so they made up reasons why he was wrong. Sound familiar? Especially in light of even the weakest of background check reforms failing in the Senate?

Let's do a thought experiment. PoliceOne (or someone else) does a survey of law enforcement that shows results at odds with other polls. Democrats take a look at this and realize that the law enforcement community does have its own significiant lobbying and political influence. Democratic leaders go to law enforcement to find out why they polled they way they did, and then work with law enforcement to make changes that national police organizations support and can communicate to fence-sitting Senators to offset things like NRA propaganda.

Think that maybe you might have gotten a few more votes in the Senate? On measures that only failed by a few votes?

But no, you disagreed with the results of the poll, therefore the poll is automatically wrong and should be ignored. Keep up the good work.

If it is a flawed survey, it is so because of the survey, not because of the pollster, and not because you disagree with the results. Failing to believe something because you disagree with it led to many a disappointed conservative in November 2012.

Is that really the path you want to travel?
