why anyone would choose to give a word that much power.  it's a flippin' sound. brits throw it around like candy; they'll anyone and anything the c-word.  what is the big effin' deal?

I don't see it too often here: we're the ones who ascribe power to words. Even if a word is fraught with layers of meaning accreted on it by generations of societal prejudice, each of us still has the power to appropriate the word and re-legitimate it for our own uses.

I'm a little concerned, though, that it appears jbou was banned even after apologizing. Did the apology not come quickly enough? Is there a time limit by which one must do so?

    •  misplaced notion of what 'cultural sensitivity' (2+ / 0-)

      ACTUALLY entails.

What 'cultural sensitivity' or 'political correctness' or whatever, SHOULD entail is simply this:

      Don't be an asshole.

But in its current form, both on this site and in the political discourse, it really means:

'Keep everything so antiseptic it couldn't possibly raise anyone's hackles'.

What these people somehow overlook is that it completely destroys both freedom of thought and discourse.
