Well, Scalia has a lifetime appointment that allows him to be outrageous as long as he doesn't do anything that could be used to successfully impeach him. Skipping the SOTU and attending the WHCD are his prerogative.

    •  ummm then let's take that... (0+ / 0-)

...away, not from him specifically but generally.  Remember the connection between the tea party and Clarence's wife.  The Constitution was written at a different time for a different time.....this would be similar to someone saying we must lead our lives exactly the way the Bible was written -I mean how dumb is that.....oooooops never mind!!!!

for members of the SCOTUS, an idea that has broad bi-partisan support. It will take a Constitutional Amendment but would not impact the people on the current SCOTUS, only new appointees.

Let's take "what" away from Scalia. What are you proposing?

On a side note there was nothing impeachable regarding Justice Thomas' wife. There was not even an ethics violation or any cause for him to recuse himself. His wife's employers were not a direct party to the Citizens United case.

      he shouldn't be criticized?

The more scrutiny on Scalia's political dealings, the better.  Even if his vote doesn't change, how history views him will be important to the relative weight given to his opinions and dissents.

He knew damn well what he was doing by being Fox News's guest.  Skipping the SOTU is, however, perfectly reasonable, though I dispute the premise that Scalia lends dignity.

      Difficult, difficult, lemon difficult.
