  •  Rural is a state of mind (6+ / 0-)

Ah definitions - since we are talking about how people perceive themselves and their relationship with guns, I thin that NH is both rural and suburban - North of Concord and West of 95 (skip Hanover area) the majority of local voters consider themselves rural residents - now I know there is a lot more real estate out west so population density is naturally thinner but where you have farmers and small schools and people who hunt and fish to supplement their diet ... you have rural sensibilities

You are 100% correct. And about 95% of real rural people have the same state of mind when it comes to the 2nd Amendment: they believe in it, some radically so.

Rural people are not by definition ignorant so they understand the difference between having a gun and some ammunition and unlimited uncontrolled access to weapons designed to kill lots of people in a short amount of time.  There is a radical element in this country but falling hook, line and sinker for the NRA's gun manufacturer's position is not a given outside the radical right... hence the national polls in favor of background checks.
