Why is that when someone thinks sexual orientation is a choice they're shoehorned into being a homophobic bigot? I mean, you can think sexual orientation is a choice and still support gay rights.

    I think it's a choice. Am I a bigot by default?

    •  When did you choose YOUR sexual orientation? (4+ / 0-)

        choose my current sexual orientation.

        •  so you were, obviously, attracted to both genders? (6+ / 0-)

.... at least at some point before you sat with yourself and said???

the only thing that might make sense is that you are bisexual.
which, if that is the case, fine.
your "choice" argument might just make sense.... for you.

however, here is the thing that just might raise the bigot flag:

I have never made any choices, as you say, before I knew I was gay... it's all I've ever known.
if you believe that your "way" .... the "choice" way is the only way

then I guess you might be a bigot.

It would be perfectly reasonable to accept and not stigmatize gay people even if gayness WERE a choice. For me, it all comes down to, it's none of my business what people do, so long as they aren't hurting others. Be who you are, and be who you want to be. And many of these judgmental types won't be swayed by any scientific proof that gayness is biological - when have they ever accepted science that doesn't support their narrow worldview?

    •  no, not a bigot.... but I guess you must've been (5+ / 0-)

equally attracted, sexually and romantically, to both genders before making your sexuality choice (which is??)

anyway, not a bigot necessarily.... just not very informed.

because there are too many idiots out there who would jump on it and use it to smack gay people around the head. Also, true of some people, not true of all.

I'm pansexual, I remember a time when members of the same sex did nothing for me...and that didn't make sense, so I changed it--but it's not the sort of easily-sold story that moves masses. Baby steps, bro. Get something that works first and then rejigger it.
