  •  I find the timing suspect (0+ / 0-)

    Came out only days ago.

And than we have the news today.

I would like to think peoples actions are for some altruistic reason. But the timing of this is just too suspect.

An endorsement contract for Nike and pay a man to do many things.

Although its good have progress at most any cost. This one seems to be one bought and paid for with sweatshop Nike labor.

I'm sure this was not a spur of the moment thing.

Sports Illustrated chooses a cover subject well before the issue hits the stands. They negotiated the thing with Jason Collins, for sure, and probably the topmost NBA officials were in the loop.

But then again, not too many could be in the know, because it's so damn hard to keep a secret.

It was also much easier for Jason Collins to make the announcement while he is a free agent. If he were still with a team, he'd feel obliged to tell his coach about his decision to put all his business on the cover of Sport Illustrated. The coach would want to tell his boss, and the owner should know, of course, and maybe the team captain, and the team stars and ... there goes the secrecy.

I can imagine many organizations that would rather have not been involved. So the timing was right for Jason Collins -- and for his past and prospective employers, who can decide what to say and do all in due course.
