  •  Thanks Mark.... (7+ / 0-)

It's fun to read your thoughts on the GOT episodes. I do wonder how the series seems to those who haven't read the books though. Last nights show touched on pages and pages of reading.

but having neither read or seen these episodes, this leaves LOTS to the imagination! Unfortunately it doesn't make me interested enough in them to read or view.

...well-received advice, but Stop Watching. Please. Just stop.

DVR this TV show and go read the books.

They are some of the best books (fantasy or not) ever written. In 100 years, you will not be able to get an English degree without reading them.

      They're that good.

After you've read the books, you will be able to watch the TV show in a divine state of Knowledge and Enlightenment.

For example, you'll catch the Marxist reference Gendry drops in this week's episode...HBO played it down, but it was there, all right...

show, just reveling in the sets and costumes and brilliant acting and amazing writing - and NOT having to compare it to everything they screwed up from the book - is divine.

I've read the first two books each right after the last episode of the first two seasons.  If I'd gone the other way, I'd would have been grumbling and pissed repeatedly during seasons 2.

I'm really glad that I was given the first book shortly after it turned out the third wouldn't really wrap up the "trilogy".  Having been down this road with plenty of fantasy series in the past (cough Eddings), I set it aside until the whole series was available.

And I am so damned glad I did.

        •  I have read all the books and usually (5+ / 0-)

I hate movies after I have read the books, but in the case of GOT, I don't have that issue.  Sure there are some characters that got dropped and some scenes they don't do, but all in all it is AWESOME.

storyline if I had read the book first.

This is the first major adaptation of Fantasy, Science Fiction, or Comic Book that I've ever watched prior to reading the source material, and I'm really enjoying it.

With Walking Dead it doesn't matter because things are changed so massively that it's an alternative universe.  All the tension is still there.

I finally get how great watching Two Towers was for people who didn't know how it ended for Boromir, you know?
