I've read 'em. You're on the winning team.

    •  I'm not firmly convinced she's the winning team. (5+ / 0-)

Anyone can be killed.  Anyone.  I've read the books too and my impression is different.  (SPOILERS AHEAD) ....  I think one of the over-arching themes of the series is that there is the capacity for good and evil in every person.  There is a beast in every man, Ser Jorah would say.  As the Mother of Dragons, Dany definitely has her dark side.   Daenerys might stand a chance of ruling the Seven Kingdoms, but only if she doesn't go stark raving mad like her father and many of the Targaryens who came before her.  From what I've been able to glean of Targaryen history, madness runs in their bloodline.  I think there is a lot of foreshadowing in the text that drops hints of this in the characterization of Daenerys Stormborn.  By the end of the third book her heart has already hardened considerably and trust issues begin to develop in her mind.  By the end of the fifth book something inside her has dramatically changed.  She has succumbed to paranoia and delusion and it's unclear whether she will be ruled by emotion or by reason.  If, through the tribulations she experiences, she can retain her quintissential humanity, she would make a good fit for the Iron Throne.  Then again, George R.R. Martin isn't really known for treating his characters kindly, and he has made it clear that Daenerys isn't his favorite character.
