    it is certainly not practiced by "God" and not by his "Son".  Any deity or person who endorses the concept of hell and eternal torture holds no water in my book of morality.

    •  The key moral values (don't kill -don't steal - (0+ / 0-)

      don't lie, and so on) are pretty universal. They can be grounded in secular principles (social contract, natural law, Rawls' veil of ignorance, and so on) or in religious ones (deist, imago dei, etc.). Truths that are robust can usually be arrived at by several routes; in fact that's one of the things that raises confidence that they are true.

      If your notion of hell is perpetual punishment for any slight infraction I agree with you. Many understand hell to be simply the absence of God, chosen by the person and ended whenever he chooses otherwise.

      You certainly chose an apposite screen name.

      Is it true? Is it kind? Is it necessary? . . . and respect the dignity of every human being.
