  •  I'm so glad you wrote this (5+ / 0-)
    religiously-justified (and Biblically incorrect) biases
That's the bottom line on all this high handed Christian bigotry, they are following arbitrary rules and don't even know their source material.

    •  Checking the Bible here beside my computer, (6+ / 0-)

I don't see any passages that say 'Hate thy neighbor' or 'Hate thy gay/black/bigoted sportscaster neighbor.' I just see a lot of parables about love, and lifting up those in need.

      •  Read Deuteronomy and Leviticus. (0+ / 0-)

That's where the craziness and hate is readily apparent.

Not to mention the god of the bible's frequent genocidal rage elsewhere. Joshua and Jericho, for example.

The key here is if a person takes the book literally. If they do, and they still want to worship the god of the bible, they're worshiping a hate-filled, whacked out monster. If, OTOH, they can look at the bible poetically, allegorically, metaphorically, there is much beauty and wisdom to be derived.

Broussard chooses to be literal but cherry-pick.

if you are a highly creative, imaginative reader, you can find some beauty and wisdom in the Bible, but it's so much easier to read the actual words and take away the craziness, hate, and genocidal rage.

You can't blame Broussard and his ilk for being average.
