actually support marriage equality  the least of all the races!

after all, most evangelicals are white. and this is generally an evangelical christian driven issue (as I pointed out in the diary).

the part that irked me, and sparked me to write this diary, was that the guy from ESPN is black, and a number of the people on the Twitter hashtag supporting him were black, and of course citing the bible.

so by all means, this is not an issue against all blacks, and most blacks that i know (I'm young, so my sample is biased) are progressives who understand the parallel with their fight for civil rights.

but I couldn't help but point out the strange historical irony of blacks overcoming a lot of civil rights obstacles where their opponents were using the Bible quoting verses to oppress them -- and then turning around and doing the same to oppose gay marriage equality and homosexuality as a whole.  as a group they have a community responsibility to be historically aware of this hypocrisy and to really rectify it (Al Sharpton has done a fantastic job on this issue and has really helped push the poll numbers over the past decade)

and we're not talking about ancient shaky history, we're talking about relevant, current-generation history -- not slavery, not necessarily even segregation -- but Phil Snider's speech was about a 20th century interracial marriage opposition!!

I hope you don't worry that I'm race-baiting, or being sensational -- i try to keep my diary honest and direct and fact-based.

    Deficits don't matter, jobs do.
