No pun intended. I think MSNBC may be interested in corporatism, but I do not get the impression that most of the hosts are. I do think they care very much about liberal issues, and I think they demonstrate that consistently in other aspects of their public lives or works. I think it is popular among a small segment here to go on about how democrats and republicans are equally evil corporate stooges, and I disagree. Yes, I think almost all politicians are largely beholden to their corporate interests, but I think Republicans are much much worse and many democrats really do care about progressive issues. But I don't agree that this applies equally to MSNBC hosts. That is a stretch.

    •  What's your interpretation of progressive issues? (1+ / 0-)

Here's the problem.  The system as a whole is corrupt to the core; the entire system of government.  When you have hundreds of former congresspeople and staffers going to work for corporations with an implied quid pro quo arrangement, it doesn't get any more corrupt than that.

Within that reality you have these two wings of what is essentially a one-party system beholden to their corporate paymasters.

In this space, then you have the Republicans which are truly odious in-your-face fascistic and abhorrent.

Of course, the easiest thing in the world is to point out how truly disgusting and evil they are, but that's missing the larger picture, which is that the entire system is corrupt.

The so-called liberal media stokes the anger on the left, who then spends an inordinate amount of time and attention on the dastardly acts of the right wing loonies, while missing the larger picture, and most importantly, while being neutralized from taking any meaningful action to take on the corruption.

Exactly as the Powers That Be would want it.

But I believe there are people operating within the system who are not. I also believe that the people on MSNBC are truly disturbed by the things they report and it is not a secret conspiracy to distract people from the larger issue. For that matter, I have heard both Rachel Maddow and Chris Hayes talk about the corporate infiltration on the left, too.

Further, just because the whole system needs an overhaul (2 year terms is a huge contributor to the problem) does not mean actively fighting for other issues is a waste of time or a distraction. Things can and do get accomplished. Frankly, I think the whole world is bring fucked over by a small group of rich people and some day, if it continues, they may find themselves at the wrong end of a workers' rebellion or a French Revolution reign of terror type reaction. Maslow's hierarchy of needs suggests it is inevitable.
