  •  This is symbolic but not important in (0+ / 0-)

    any meaningful way.

For every gun turned in at one of these buybacks, 1,000 new ones are sold.

Making it 1,001 doesn't change much, if anything.

get their guys to turn in the guns and get rid of the mindset that they neeeeeeed a gun.  This kind of shit spits in the face of the people who are working at the most grass-roots level possible to stop the violence.  Jan Brewer and the shitheads in her government are assholes.

Listening to the NRA on school safety is like listening to the tobacco companies on cigarette safety. (h/t nightsweat)

+++ The law is a weapon used to bludgeon us peasants into submission. It is not to be applied to the monied elite.

      •  My number isn't made up, it's real (0+ / 0-)

        (an under-estimate, really).

Here is how many have been sold:

In the four years since Barack Obama was first elected president in November 2008, an estimated 67 million firearms have been purchased in the United States. In November a record 2 million guns were sold in America.  This was followed up by another record in December.  2.7 million guns were sold in America in the last month of 2012.

I haven't found good numbers for the number of guns bought back during that time (according to Wikipedia it's probably just over 10,000 so my number should be about 5,000 new guns sold from every one taken off the streets in buybacks.

Over a longer time, the numbers are similar:

The total number of guns recovered in various buyback programs around the country since 1974 probably is far less than 100,000, according to figures compiled by Associated Press and Handgun Control Inc.
Based on the just the number of guns sold since the start of the Obama administration, my 1 in 1,000 number is close to accurate.  Based on the many more new guns surely sold since 1974, the number is at least 1 in 2,000 (but could easily be 1 in 3,000, 4,000, or 5,000).

Bottom line YOU are a million-fold off.  OR WORSE  By contrast, my numbers totally hold up.  But I suspect you don't give a flying fuck about this, you seem to be much more interested in lying about me on the internet. . . .
