And I was interested to note that in the new book about the recall, our feeling of being abandoned by the national Dems was validated--apparently Messina came to WI to try to talk us out of the recall.  It's a black mark on both the state and national Democratic Party that this huge grassroots effort was squandered.

don't put someone like Barret up again. like i said, we have to go balls-out, pro-labor, aggressive progressive. WI is a purple state, not a red state. WI has many, many voters who are the stereotypical Republican house voter; they will scream bloody murder and union socialism no matter who we put up, so we might as well go for it.

It's true that the National Dems left us alone to fail in the recall, but WI Dems deserve alot of blame for failing to put up a real progressive, and that's what worries me most. This squishy moderate Dem bullshit has been killing us at the national level for years, and it's just as bad on the state level.

Some actual support from the National Dems (maybe even the Obama) would be helpful as well. like i said, pissed-off Goopers will be supercharged to come out and vote this time to stick it to the liberals who dared challenge their beloved union-buster. thing is, they can act like Madison is the only liberal bastion in the state, but it's not true.

Banking on the American people to be able to sort all this out and declare the adult in the room the winner is a very big bet. -Digby
