      At the time, communists controlled two very large economies and armies. Not that those two powers got along, but it was still something big and real enough to point at and hyperventilate for the camera.

      I suppose there was some real threat that a majority of Americans would elect representatives who favored an economic system he didn't. After all, the Constitution explicitly empowers Congress to look after the economic system of our country. To the extent that they didn't interfere with existing contracts or take property without due process and compensation, those elected officials could conceivably direct some fraction of public funds into industrial investments. Scary, but legal.

      But, the Muslim Brotherhood? Take a deep breath, count to ten, and ... no, actually just count to one. It's the First Amendment: our individual beliefs are none of our collective concern. Even if the Muslim Brotherhood took the Presidency, and won majorities in both houses, you're still safe until they figure out how to repeal the First Amendment.
