"Just one of those crazy accidents," White said.
A five-year-old boy shoots and kills his 2-year-old sister with his own gun that he was given last year. When he was 4???

A 4-year-old given a .22 calibre toy that his family kept propped up in a corner because freedom. They didn't know the bullet was still in it. Apparently, the 4-year-old boy had a brain fart and didn't tell them.

This is the culture the sane among us promoting safe and responsible gun ownership are facing. Parents give a small boy, just post-toddler, his own firearm and keep it where he and his toddler sister can access it easily.
That's bad enough in and of itself, but then you have a government official, the county coroner, brushing all that off as "just one of those crazy accidents". One of those crazy accidents, implying it is not all that rare.

We are up against institutionalized stupidity, the walking unconscious, the logic-bereft.

A two-year-old girl is dead. A five-year-old boy, her brother, was her killer.

"Just one of those crazy accidents", my ass.

And this is not belittling the tragedy that you cite, but where would a background check, a reduction in magazine capacity, or an "assault-style" ban have done in this case? If you want to argue for the repeal of the Second Amendment, by all means, do so. But don't argue that this is part of the problem that could be solved under the guise of these restrictions you look to enact.

        background checks or any measures.

I'm speaking to the culture. I'm saying that whatever your preferred remedies to any perceived problem surrounding gun control, we're faced with an opposition among which are those who regard guns like we might regard coffee mugs- as something you can just leave lying around with no regard to who is in the vicinity.

How can you speak to someone who is so careless with something so potentially lethal, something for which lethality is the reason for its existence?

I'm stating, not arguing, that this is a facet of our society that we need to consider when presenting our case for sane gun regulation.

I think you were reading my comments in a different frame of mind than that in which they were written.
