  •  I hate all forms any more (11+ / 0-)

After having to deal with food stamps and other help. You have to repeat yourself over and over and over and over again, every 6 months or so, with threats of penalties and jail time if you don't get it right.

Medicare for all would have been so much better for people. You just sign up and pay your taxes automatically out of your earnings. No fuss, no muss.

    •  It would make so much sense (0+ / 0-)

To put all of those forms online. If you've applied in the past, your data is already in a database. It makes no sense for you to fill it all out, over and over again.

If done right, all you'd have to do (after the first application) to fill out any government assistance/benefit form is login, then enter one other piece of security verification info (chosen by the applicant). Two layer authentication is important.

Once logged in, click on a link to the form you need. Any field on the form for which there is already data in the database simply doesn't appear on the online page, so all you'd need to fill in is whatever is new/different.

If you needed to change existing info (such as your address), you would click a button to access/edit your full profile after logging in.

write English as practiced by bureaucrats. If you know how to use a computer in the first place.

Bills from doctors, copies of birth certificates, green cards, social security cards need to be provided as proof.

        •  After the initial signup (0+ / 0-)

As I stated, this would be for all subsequent benefit signups, not the first one. Once you're in the database, though, it makes no sense to make you re-enter everything.

As to the bureaucratese: it's an issue with or without computer access.

There is no reason to avoid making the process easier for most applicants, just  because some applicants will have to keep using the old process.
