  •  In Louisiana, teachers are retiring so fast (9+ / 0-)

that the school systems are left in a bind. However, this was the goal of the Jindal/ALEC privatization of public schools all along. Get the real teachers out of the system. Now they can bring in "Teach for America" teachers who have had 5 weeks of training and won't stay in the community after their contract expires. And they are advertising for anyone, anyone at all, who has a BA. No teaching experience or training necessary. Of course, these newbies won't be monitored or evaluated at all, because the charters & privates don't have to meet the same standards that purely public schools do. Just one more step to making all schools purely private...and competitive in a pure market economy. I hate these people, I really do.

This whole world's wild at heart and weird on top....Lula

at a terribly run and monumentally expensive public-charter. She has a "masters" from a third rate HBC that lost it's accreditation (I won't say which but not hard to suss out if you know Louisiana HBC's...) and is now teaching the hardest, toughest cases in New Orleans. She is dedicated, her heart is in the right place, she has ZERO background or pedagogical training. AKA she has no business at the blackboard.

The place was utterly dark—the oubliette, as I suppose, of their accursed convent.
