    the Heuy Long and Townsend movements pushed FDR.

    The Democratic Party is not going to adopt some of Marx's ideas, other than universal education, progressive taxation, etc.  See Communist Manifesto.

    Those who seek to transform the Democratic Party into a Marxist Party are quite unrealistic.  Better to grow a socialist party and build for the future.

    Moving the Democraitc Party leftward, however, is a possible reality.  It's difficult, but possible.

    I agree on the need for a countervailing power from the left, but that really is up to the American people.
