      all data-gathering efforts at the U.S. Census Bureau except for the once-a-decade census mandated by the Constitution would come to an end.

      That’s a problem for the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), which depends upon the U.S. Census Bureau to create representative sample groups used in the monthly Current Population Survey (CPS), which helps the BLS estimate unemployment.

        Nor does your comment quote BLS. This activity could be moved to BLS if this data series was important to BLS, as this data is already a joint effort with BLS.

          Make BLS recreate a data gathering 'wheel' that the Census Bureau has been handling efficiently and effectively for years. Besides, the legislators' beef is that people are being required to answer certain 'nosy' questions. Is that objection suddenly going to be negated if BLS is asking the questions? Not to mention multiple other survey results that other government agencies rely on - should they conduct their own separate samples as well?
