is told to use his own weapon which he is already familiar with to make it more realistic and loads the magazine with blanks not realizing that he didn't clear the chamber first and there was still a live round in it.

    •  Wouldn't count on account of a technicality. (1+ / 0-)

In such a situation the family of the deseased should be informed that this is yet another RKBA win.

    •  That would be against army protocols (0+ / 0-)

Before leaving a training range, every weapon will be cleared and inspected.  All magazines will be emptied and inspected.  All pockets will be emptied.  Bolts will be locked in the open position or a bolt inhibitor will be inserted.  Blank ammunition and live ammunition will never be issued to a  soldier at the same time, and live ammunition and blank ammunition will never be stored together.  When blank ammunition is issued, a "blank firing adapter" will be issued for each rifle, and placed on the barrel of the rifle before the blank ammunition is loaded.

      The Army Way

      •  What protocols? This was a hastily thought up (0+ / 0-)

"readiness drill" that obviously didn't have any thought put into it (blanks are lethal at short range, plus the possibility of permanent hearing damage if you are too close which those teachers most likely were).  The Pine Eagle Charter School way is not the Army Way.  Oh, and handguns were used and not rifles.
