  •  How do cops feel about being Wall St. rent-a-cops? (4+ / 0-)

The pay and benefits are good, especially if you put in enough years, but the self-respect must suck. Doesn't the lack of it get to them sometimes? Guys making 100x what they make use them to protect their interests.

in Times Square it was completely surrounded by gates and cops. Like we are just going to go completely nuts and start destroying the banks property? I mean really? The only violence I've ever seen at Occupy events has been done TO us..and not from us. I asked one of the NYPD how he felt about what he was doing and if this is what he really intended when he set out to be a cop? Got the stoic silence I'm used to..I was polite.

President Obama would have been a republican in the 1980's & 1990's. Go figure.

So it's not just the NYPD. It has to do with the sort of person who chooses to become a cop, the training and instructions they get, the pressures and stress they experience, and peer pressure to look macho and tough. So they end up adopting a siege mentality towards civilians that holds them in contempt even if they've done nothing wrong. Otherwise, they'd have to face up to the fact that they're no better than them and are supposed to protect them, not bully them. I realize that not all cops are like this, but enough are.
