  •  A significant fraction believe we CANNOT ruin it (7+ / 0-)

Based on some interpretation of I forget which Bible passage, there's a nontrivial number of fundamentalist Christians who believe that, even if human technology is facially capable of causing damage to the world, the hand of God will restore it should we reach a point where our excess interferes with our dominion.

They specifically cite Peak Oil as "nonsense"; if the oil runs out, God will restore it for us anew.

      That theory is truly weird.

So they think this is the kind of parent who says: "Well, you kind of wrecked the bike I gave you, and then you wrecked the car, and then you accidentally set the house on fire the night you got so stoned--but, hey, no worries, new stuff is on its way!"

I think it is much more likely that God would say: "No more oil for you--you wasted what I gave you."
