I'm usually of the opinion that most religion is crazy most of the time. At its most benign, it still involves the act of making shit up (or blindly accepting shit others have made up) either to patch gaps in extent human knowledge or overwrite portions of human knowledge a believer finds distasteful. That said, I admit the nights can be dark, and that can be scary for some, and I do not believe that they are made any brighter when someone like me comes along and pisses on another person's candle. So long as a believer follows their path in peace and leaves others alone to bloody well do the same thing, I will defend their right to their nonsense to the death. Who knows, they might be right! And what else is the point of sentience if not to wonder about this mysterious and beautiful universe we find ourselves in and sometimes make up nonsense about it as though we understand even a millionth part of its secrets?

This is different, though. This is suicide cult behavior. And not the mostly harmless kind of suicide cult where willing volunteers shuffle off their mortal coil to go join their comet spaceship or whatever, but the kind where they want to drag others down with them. Welcome to Planet Jonestown. The purple kool-aid will be added to the municipal water supply along with the fracking fluid.
