  •  I have to say I agree with you. (9+ / 0-)

A memorial Gardens, maybe with a park or play ground off to one side. Bring back some child hood laughter to the area as well as the memorial. What better way to remember the lives and joy of children and those who cared for them?

I don't think I would send a child to school on that site, even in a new building. It would always be in the back of my mind, and if the child had lived through that, always in the back of theirs as well.

    •  I do not know why that has not even been (5+ / 0-)

reported.  It is the most respectful thing to do.  A playground with laughter to overshadow the tears to a degree.  A beautiful fountain and flowers with books as statues.   A wall of the victims names.  A walking trail of tears for those with a reflecting pool.   I see a lot of healing that could be done much like the Wall in DC.. Even a traveling wall for gun violence should be established.

      •  If/when it is reported it will be soundly attacked (5+ / 0-)

by the NRA and the gun Cult that serves them. Can you imagine that?  A memorial that reminds people of the slaughter that we live with as routine? That would be more than the gun Cult members could bear. Nothing that would ever put their idols in a bad light is acceptable to them.

For me, I think it's a great idea to:
        1) Help people heal as you and others are mentioning, and
        2) To remind people how sick our government is in that it is willing to continue to sacrifice children at the altar of the NRA.

Then they came for me - and by that time there was nobody left to speak up.

and I am all for a mobile digital wall to go around the country showing all the dead from gun violence.  We must do something because it looks like congress can't make anything happen.  This serves two purposes.....Healing and respect for the victims and families and put the gun violence which  is terrorism in the same light as those who took out the twin towers.. Put gun violence in the light it belongs...Carnage on American soil.  Killing and cheerleading by the NRA.
