    involving someone else does.

he ought to have dealt with the crushing societal pressures in complete isolation, thus opening himself up to speculation as to why he never dates girls?

      •  Yes (0+ / 0-)

but I would say that, the societal pressures of dating aren't as great as one would think. The crushing pressures of being an NBA player and performing night in and out would be pretty high.  Deal with it...yes deal with it.  Lots of people do just that.  Lots of single guys in the league...lots

We are assuming that the sex lives of players is a constant topic of discussion in the league.  Not everyone has groupies, this guy wasn't a superstar.

        •  On what basis would you say (0+ / 0-)

that the societal pressures of dating aren't as great as one would think?  Given the context he was working in?

Those "lots of single guys in the league": are they single and abstaining from random hookups?

          •  Of course. (0+ / 0-)

there is not way to tell the percentage but my point is that being a basketball player does not necessarily make one a hyper sexualized person.  There certainly are players in the NBA that are hooking up with lots of other people but I think many players are well aware of the risks of having sex with random people all the time.

I guess we need to think more clearly about who is playing in the league.  Or maybe we need to think more clearly about what we feel about the people playing in the league.

Point being that they wouldn't have to be abstaining from random hook ups but that doesn't necessarily mean that they report on every sexual encounter they have.  They are on the road for three total months of the year as the season runs from nov to april.  Many have steady partners or like I said many just don't publicly discuss or display their sex life which is actually a pretty normal scenario.

          •  What would make you say that (0+ / 0-)

the pressure to have sex and publicly acknowledge your sexuality is greater in the NBA?  He works on a basketball court not in a brothel.
