  •  Other Buddhist teachers might emphasize (6+ / 0-)

that we share karma with everyone who inhabits this planet, and that we share common responsibility for outcomes which affect real suffering -- not cream in coffee for Chrissakes-- but things like not having clean water to drink or to wash your kid's hand where he cut himself, or not having the freedom to sleep at night without being terrorized by the buzzing of predator drones overhead, or having to work at a crap job you hate just to eke out survival wages for yourself and your family ... or enlisting in the Army because there are no jobs, and being exposed to the dust from depleted Uranium munitions...the list is endless, and I haven't scratched the surface of the surface.

IMO real Buddhism covers everything.  Here's one more thought in the face of suffering.  'What there is to eat in a given world is a manifestation of the totality of good karma of every sentient creature inhabiting that world, from ants, to planarian worms, to ferrets, to human beings.'

The hungry judges soon the sentence sign, And wretches hang, that jurymen may dine.

      •  I saw or heard it somewhere...cannot remember (0+ / 0-)

        specifically.

I have had to reconstruct the wording as best I could remember.
