  •  But were they mad about Avatar? (7+ / 0-)

I never obsessively followed it, but I was pissed when it was cast majority white. I mean, did they read the manga, glance at the anime?

Nope, most of Geek Nation was fine with it, so the "Purist" meme is bullshit. Utter and complete bullshit.

    •  I refuse to see The Last Airbender (5+ / 0-)

out of general principle and because they whitewashed the cast. I understand that some people liked it but no one I know does and my friends that saw it also hated the whitewashing of the characters.

      •  They white washed the good guys (0+ / 0-)

Then the directer told everyone that they shouldn't complain about it because he cast people of color as the bad guys. It was absurd.

        •  Another reason why (0+ / 0-)

I probably won't see another M. Knight movie, the guy talked about how big a fan he was of the Last Airbender series and then went and made a dog turd of a movie. I haven't even seen it and I rank it up there with Disney's version of The Black Cauldron as being a movie I hate.

the Avatar movie was just god awful and I imagine most of the geek community went busily about pretending it never happened.

That may have to do with my particular geek circles, though.
