The cognitive psychology research says that self-identified conservatives are above average in being motivated by thoughts of cleanliness.

Renewable energy is clean and thrifty. It's also traditional.

Freedom isn't free. Patriots pay taxes.

    •  It seems that obligate and delegate are (7+ / 0-)

opposite concepts. Some legislators perceive (rightly) that they are hired to deliver on the obligation to provide for the general welfare; others, apparently, perceive themselves as de-legates, people tasked with loosing or removing the ties that bind us into communities.
People who perceive government as a constraint aim to do away with it, except as an instrument of punishment for those who don't behave. Having to wait until the after-life for people they don't like to be punished is not attractive to the impatient and instinct-driven. Our mistake, perhaps, is in assuming that people who want things done yesterday are actually into doing. They're not. They're just wanting and not wanting. It's what makes them idealists. All talk, no action.

We organize governments to deliver services and prevent abuse.

Which means, of course, that Today's Republican Party (tm) is absolutely obligated to oppose it.

The last time the Republicans were this radical, they were working to elect former slaves to Congress. What a difference a century and a half makes!

buy the light bulb that doesn't say it helps the environment, with all else being equal (equal light, equal lifespan, equal cost).  They love to stick it to Democrats, even if it benefits them not a bit or even harms themselves.
