    opposite concepts. Some legislators perceive (rightly) that they are hired to deliver on the obligation to provide for the general welfare; others, apparently, perceive themselves as de-legates, people tasked with loosing or removing the ties that bind us into communities.
    People who perceive government as a constraint aim to do away with it, except as an instrument of punishment for those who don't behave. Having to wait until the after-life for people they don't like to be punished is not attractive to the impatient and instinct-driven. Our mistake, perhaps, is in assuming that people who want things done yesterday are actually into doing. They're not. They're just wanting and not wanting. It's what makes them idealists. All talk, no action.

    We organize governments to deliver services and prevent abuse.
