  •  Partly, but what I mean is.... (10+ / 0-)

.....if I had the choice of my family being out on the street with me or living OK on my insurance settlement and widow's benefits after I died, I might choose the latter, not out of pain but just out of a rational look at the options left.

Or, maybe it could be something as simple as the comment above:

No one wants to go homeless and die on the street like a dog. Therefore, many people view suicide as being a better option.
It shouldn't be that way, but I could see how somebody could make these decisions without necessarily being in pain but just after an objective look at their situation.

Again, this country has to rebuild its safety net so people aren't put in the situation where suicide is a better option than life.

    •  Yet the common response to our safety net (9+ / 0-)

by our elected reps is to chip away at it, while using our tax dollars to subsidize billion dollar corporations and tax breaks for the very wealthy.  And we turn out to vote for these guys.  I can't believe the large percentage Romney/Ryan got touting their policies.  Are we in a stupor?

      •  I don't know. (8+ / 0-)

This just isn't the country I grew up in anymore.

I really can't figure out what happened, except that it forgot the lessons we learned in the Great Depression.

      •  And, you know..... (8+ / 0-)

.....there's a malevolent force coursing throughout the body politic being driven by Wall Street and the Randites that seems to have captured a wide swath of the white working class.

        Fools.

Yeah for big oil, big banks, big insurance, and big pharma, according to her.  Tax breaks for billionaires but not her.  She's struggling, putting off home repairs and what have you, like so many others, yet it's go GOP all the way with her.

She is full of rabid hatred for anything other, Dems especially, and is driven by that hate as well as a large dose of fear.  Of course she watches only Fox News, and listens to Rush and Mark Levin.

She would have to be deprogrammed at this point, and not so sure such a measure would actually work, she's that far gone.  It's stunning what the rightwing noise machine is doing to us.
