what the boars are looking for when they dig. Worms and grubs? There's nothing substantial to find.

    What about the climate cliff?

They're like little earth plows as they root around looking for grubs.

few miles away in the heavily forested hills with areas that are almost impenetrable and a problem for ranchers close by as they forage in pastures.  Also, they piss off quail hunters since they eat the eggs.  Lots of hunting for them, but at least they use the meat.

The Armadillos are a more serious problem and I've had lots of run-ins with them.  The only way to deal with them effectively is shooting which I could never do, but I know others don't hesitate.  So far nothing this year.  Last fall, I had a juvenile, which had two burrows and one nest already established when I discovered that it planned to become a resident.  Our dog Sadie would alert me when it was foraging and I'll go out with the flashlight and scare it. Filled the holes with rocks, used landscape timber and rocks to block it from the digging under the fences.  Wild times at night until I finally blocked and scared it off.

Actually, I felt bad about having to do that again.  We were the only place around that was watering and had water available at times and I know that all the area wildlife was really suffering from the drought.  I might not have even worked to run it away if it just dug in the lawn areas, but it was of course digging and destroying roots in all the beds around.  And they also eat earthworms which I was also working on saving.

In atonement I did help save the squirrels and birds, of course, and other small creatures.

I will gladly whack one over the head with a shovel if I catch it in action digging up my garden. The damage they do is astonishing.

I have squirrels follow me around when I'm hand-watering and birds will play in the spray so like you I know I'm doing my part to help some wildlife survive this slow-moving environmental clusterfuck aka climate change.
