  •  Yeah, the collective freak-out was a bit silly. (0+ / 0-)
My recollection of standard procedure in similar situations is that the account gets frozen quickly until things get sorted out -- during which time the user is shown as "banned," because there's no separate icon for "suspended" -- and then on e there's a satisfactory explanation they get reinstated.  That's it.  No gigantic multi-diary conflagration necessary.
But what I find seriously disturbing is that some people actually recced the comment, and that some are still refusing to remove their recs.

As of now there are still two people endorsing the statement as written with their recs.

And they can read with their own eyes exactly what it says.

    •  We call that "uprating" (1+ / 0-)

One is not supposed to do it -- but I understand why some wanted to stand with him (though not with the mistakenly expressed sentiment) on this.

"I love this goddamn country, and we're going to take it back."

      •  It's hard for me to see uprating that comment... (0+ / 0-) "standing with webranding" in any way, shape, or form.

Webranding has made no public requests for anybody to uprate the comment, and nobody has claimed to have received such a request from him privately, either.

If I made a typo like that, I most certainly would not interpret uprates as support. I'd want my comment hidden and hidden good, preferably totally removed by site admins.

I certainly wouldn't want anybody to uprate it.

By the way, the number of uprates had increased to 3 since I wrote that last comment.

        •  I agree (0+ / 0-)

That's why I didn't uprate it.  But if there were a button I could click to retract other people's hide ratings, I'm sure that I'd have clicked it.
